WRT54GL + DDWRT No IP Assigned

    Hey Guys,

    Hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

    We have been using hotspotsystem for some time with the hotspotwrt firmware. However have had endless issues over the past years getting android & windows clients to connect reliably.

    Therefore i am attempting to configure a spare device using DDWRT however im falling short. I’ve followed the DDWRT+Hotspotsystem guide from top to bottom. No matter what i do i cannot get an IP assigned to the device in the 192.168.182.xxx range. Client devices do not obtain an IP at all when attempting to connect.

    I’ve attached my existing config in the screenshots below.

    WRT54GL Serves as the Access point using firmware V24-SP2 – Standard
    WAN: 10.0.0.2 – This is directly connected to my DSL router no issues exist here in that i can obtain an internet connection directly from my TPLink TD8817 by connecting my laptop directly.
    LAN: 192.168.20.0/24

    We are serving free basic connections and require a splash screen, as we have adjusted T&C’s.

    I can obtain a local IP in the 192.168.1.xxx range when the wifi interface is configured as Bridged. However access is not restricted and i am not presented with a splash page nor provided a 192.168.182.xxx address suggesting i am connected to hotspotsystem in any way.

    Therefore i configured the wifi adapter as unbridged and listed the DHCP Interface as Eth1, note i have no requirement to restrict the LAN ports on the AP.

    Hello,

    First, you are using a very old DDWrt build. I suggest you upgrade to build 22118, which is a known stable build. Make sure you reset the settings during upgrade.

    You should also use a shorter SSID, it may be a bug, but it can stop the hotspot from working.

    Last, you should turn off the DHCP service. Otherwise your settings seem good.

    One way you can check if the hotspot is running is by telnetting in and issuing the “top”command. If you see a process called chilli run that’s a good sign. The router must have internet connection for this to run.

    Thanks for the feedback ill give your suggestions a go shortly.

    Could you provide a link to the latest build? I grabbed this directly from the DDWRT database, there doesnt seem to be a more recent build listed there?

    This image is broadcom chipset, which your WRT54GL is. Be sure you check the upgrade requirements, flashing the router is your responsibility.

    Hi Marko,

    Thank you very much, that image has worked a treat. I’m now online using the same config.

    Appears it was the firmware version that was causing the issue.
