Hot Spot Usage

  • I opened a free basic account and enabled the wireless signal.

The router already had the DD WRT loaded on it and I simply enabled the features. Do I need to upload additional firmware or code?

When a wireless client attempts to connect to my free hot spot signal it asks for a password.

The hot spot is set up to be free and without password.

How do I configure the password?

I disabled the wireless password security.

Is there a URL to the splash page? If so what is it?

Thanks in advance for your help.

If the router has a hotspot section then you don't need to further upgrade it.

If you want to use a password to protect the wireless network then you can configure encryption. In the router's admin click Wireless-Wireless security and set however there certain wireless encryption protocols are known to be unsecure. The most secure encryption you can use is WPA2, but is still susceptible to known attacks. When using DD-wrt, WPA2 seems unreliable, so use WEP.

You can find the splash page's URL from the control center. Click manage-locations-name of location- VIEW HOTSPOT FRONT PAGE and copy the page's URL.

thank you for this reply. I was not aware that DDWRT weakened the wireless security of WPA2.

Nevertheless, I disabled the wireless security and enabled the hotspot in the services tab. I also enabled the wireless to separate from the LAN. This resulted in showing the SSID as the hotspot in the basic wireless settings.

Do I keep the network configuration BRIDGED, or unbridged?

I currently have it Bridged in AP mode.

If unbridged, what IP address would I use and what boxes do I enable?

I tried connecting to the the unsecured wireless network, but it is connecting with limited or no connectivity.

What do I need to do to get this working?

Leave the setting as bridged and AP mode. What ip address do you get when you connect to the router?
