Cabling Multiple Routers

    I have setup the main router with hotspotsystem and it is running DD-WRT. Everything is running smoothly.

    I have two more routers that I would like to cable off of the main router as WAP's. I am not interested in doing the WDS thing, but just having clients connect to the 2 other routers wirelessly. I have them configured as bridges to the main router, but so far no dice.

    I am confused on a couple of points, does the DHCP server for hotspotsystem work over the Internet or when clients connect does the actual router serve up IP addresses?

    What is the procedure for cabling multiple routers in a daisy chain? I am obviously trying to extend the wireless coverage to multiple buildings while using the same internet access.

    Hello,

    Try to set up your routers as if they were the same as your main one, except turn the SPI firewall off under Security>Firewall>Firewall protection. Leave the WAN side on DHCP, but set different LAN IP (thus different subnet) than your main router. Example: main is 192.168.1.1 mask 255.255.255.0 second router from main LAN is 192.168.2.1 mask 255.255.255.0 and third is 192.168.3.1 mask 255.255.255.0 . Third and second behind main router could have the same LAN subnet, but it's easier to make difference while you're working on a resolution to a specific problem. Of course you have to configure the main one to give hotspot on LAN and leave the hotspot on 2nd and 3rd routers turned off.

    Okay thank you for your instructions. I tried this and now get Internet access, but it is bypassing the Hotspot somehow??? So free access for everyone!

    Do you have any suggestions on what I can try to fix it… I tried playing around with the DNSMasq for DHCP and DNS and DHCP-Authoritative checkboxes on the setup tab, but nothing seems to work. Sigh…

    I probably should give a little more information. Router #1 is hooked up to the Internet (no hotspot). Router #2 is hooked up to router #1 and is the main Hotspot and is working correctly. Router #3 is hooked up to router #2 and is giving out free internet access somehow completely bypassing the hotspot. Router #4 is hooked to router #3 and is doing the same thing (free access – no hotspot).

    I made sure to disable the SPI firewall.

    I have determined that the first hotspot router (the working one) is setup for wireless only and that the LAN interface gives out free Internet access without going to the splash page. From what I've read this is not suppose to be happening by default. How can I fix this? The “Separate wifi from lan bridge” option is not available.
