Which Router For A High Traffic Environment?

    Hi,

    I’m considering your service with the Facebook-like option at one of my clients’ locations. It is a larger venue with a total of 5 accesspoints to cover the whole area. Currently we use one WRT54GL running DD-WRT as main router, and 4 WAP54G’s as accesspoints (using the same SSID on different wifi channels). The accesspoints are connected to the main router by cable.

    The easiest option for me would be to just use the DD-WRT Chillispot function with your service, but on the route/firmware compatibility page you state that this is only recommended for 10-20 simultaneous users. That’s not enough for this location.

    Can you tell what kind of issues I can expect if I use this setup anyway, and/or what would be the best option for this location. Thanks.

    Just got the the Ubiquiti Edgerouter, I’m currently testing in live environment.. 20-30+ users. Crossing my fingers

    Does edgerouter solves the problem of hotspot? Does it have its own hotspot package?

    You can configure an Edgerouter with up to 4 coovachilli instances.

    For what it is worth, the EdgeRouter X is working just fine in our environment with the most current 1.8 firmware as of the time of this post.

    We currently have 168 users connected though it and the router does not yet seem to care. CPU load per the GUI is only at 5 to 9 percent and the memory is at 26%. Traffic being used is currently 21 megs down and 6 megs up. We have a 100/100 connection.

    We run all Ubnt gear with AirMax for 5G bridges and all the Access Points being UniFi. (Currently 60+ AP’s installed around this theme park.)
