Setup For Wired Routers

    Hello,

    I have had a few issues with chillispot, mainly the memory leak issue that I have seen in recent posts on the forums is fixed by coova-chilli which has been introduced in the newest build of dd-wrt. (build 21676 as of July 2013). If I am wrong on this please say.

    I am therefore very soon hoping to upgrade my hotspot to this newest build of dd-wrt.

    My question is so.

    I have 5 routers in all at this hotspot in an old, long building to cover the all the rooms. These are all either directly connected to an ADSL modem that connects to the internet or to a switch that is connected to the adsl modem. All routers using ddwrt connect to the ADSL modem or the switch via the WAN ports on their back. None of them are “daisy chained” using their other ethernet ports.

    I am confused a little with the wds naming system and setup of the hotspot.

    My ADSL modem is 192.168.1.1 in the system with a subnet of 255.255.255.255.

    The hotspot routers all run dd-wrt. All have IP addresses 192.168.x.1 where x is 2 to 6 and all have the same subnet.

    My operator username on all the routers will be the same. (I think – can someone confirm)

    What will be the location ID for the routers if they are all wired to the ADSL modem and not in a WDS?

    I follow the guide here http://www.hotspotsystem.com/en/hotspot/install_guide_dd-wrt.html and add the virtual interface so that is the DHCP interface to choose.

    I don’t change the remote network IP.

    I add the special settings for hotspotsystem free as per the installation guide.

    So, my main questions are:

    Does the newest version of dd-wrt use coova-chilli that will hopefully remove the chillispot memory leak?

    Is the operator ID the same on ALL the routers in the same location?

    What are the location IDs for this setup if all the routers are wired and are not in a WDS?

    Can anyone help?

    I can add further details or a diagram of my setup if needed.

    Hello,

    The newest build of DD-WRT uses coovachilli. The memory leakage problem has been resolved.
    You can use location IDs like: 1_wds_1 1_wds_2 etc, they don’t have to be connected with WDS, they will appear according to their naming in the control center.

    You don’t have to use virtual interfaces at all, you need to use the built-in setup, command setup won’t work.
    If you have trouble getting it working, try to unbridge the physical wireless interface (if hidden, then under Advanced) and then assign the hotspot DHCP node to it (will become wl0 or eth1 or ath1).
    Also try to uncheck ‘Use DNSMasq for DHCP’, ‘Use DNSMasw for DNS’ and ‘DHCP-Authoritative’ checkboxes under Setup>Basic Setup .
