Linksys / Cisco WRT54GL is a reliable router with good and stable signal. The coverage depends on a lot of things, like walls, objects, etc.
You may consider setting up a router from Ubiquiti , the Airmax series are N based and working quite well.

It depends on what quality you would like to ‘pass a movie’. For example a 1080p film requires about 40Mbit bandwidth.
