Linksys Wrt54G – No Splash Screen / Only Direct Connection :( Help Me To Set The Right Config Please

Hi, I need to create an hotspot with hotspot system from the 2nd router in my home, the target configuration is:

build of firmware: 22118

MAIN ROUTER (192.168.1.1) – connected directly to the ADSL (this address cannot be modified)

SECONDARY ROUTER (hotspot – wrt54g) – connected to the main router with address 192.168.20.1

if possible, I want to expone the splash screen to wifi client and also the lan client.

I’ve configured all firmware with your official guide like you can see in the images attached from 01 to 10, but I obtain only direct connection to the internet in all way (wifi and lan) and after this with the good support of the ticket I’ve tried to modifyed these parameters (as you can see from the photos 11 to 14) Basic settings>Network configuration>Unbridged. Then choose the appearing new (pobably eth1 or eth0) interface under Services>Hotspot>DHCP interface>>

but doesn’t work 🙁 the Iphone search the wifi connection but cannot establish it

can anyone help me?

Thank you for your message. You mentioned you are using the model wrt54g. Could you please let us know of the revision number of your router? You can find this information at the sticker at the back of your router.
Please perform the following steps: Disconnect your router from your computer. Reboot your router. After the router reboot please reboot your computer too. Connect to your router wirelessly to check if you are getting a hotspot splash page. Let us know how it goes.

the router is LinkSys Wrt54G ver.2.0 have and the serial number is CDF50D8P4043

-Administration-Management-Reboot Router: Done

-on the PC: obtain address with DHCP -Chrome-cache cleanded

-iphone 4: cancelled hotspot connection

PC:(the automatic IP acquired for the PC is: 192.168.1.192) NO SPLASHSCREEN 🙁 direct connection OK

Iphone4: established a new wifi connection (no ip acquired)

if I modify (like the default)

Wireless-Basic setting-Network configuration-Bridged.

Then under Services-Hotspot-DHCP interface rollback automatically to LAN

-Administration-Management-Reboot Router: Done

-iphone 4: cancelled hotspot connection

-iphone 4: renewed connection with address (dhcp) 192.168.1.193 – NO SPLASHSCREEN 🙁 direct connection OK

Thank you for your reply. In your case we advise you to install openwrt firmware instead of using dd-wrt firmware.

For your router, you can download the firmware from here: http://downloads.openwrt.org/backfire/10.03.1/brcm-2.4/openwrt-wrt54g-squashfs.bin

Under the Administration tab of the dd-wrt firmware you can upload this file.

We are developing a script that will perform the configuration automatically, but if you can’t wait please perform the following steps manually:

Once you have successfully changed the firmware on your router, you can access the router by entering address 192.168.1.1 on the web address bar. Make sure to change the password on the router. There will be a red box displayed asking you to change the password and Save and Apply the changes.

You need to SSH to your router. You need to use a utility like PuTTY to SSH to the router (you can download PuTTY from here: http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html). In the Host Name (or IP address) field of PuTTY enter 192.168.1.1 to access the router.

Once you have connected to the router. Enter the password of your router. Once you have accessed your router, you need to copy/paste a special command to this prompt.

You can find the command if you open a new web browser window, navigate to hotspotsystem.com and log in to your hotspot account. Under Manage > Locations > (choose your location) at the very bottom of the page there is a section ROUTER SETUP COMMAND FOR THIS LOCATION. There is a wget command displayed in the window.

Before you copy/paste the command please change the value “&version=v24” to “&version=openwrt”. You can change this value from the command prompt of PuTTY once you have pasted the command.

Also, make sure your router is connected to the internet via cable before you execute the command by pressing ENTER in PuTTY. This is because the router has to communicate with our servers in order to complete the configuration.

That’s it, after executing the command, wait a few seconds and your router will be configured for the location you have chosen.

Ok! I’m trying to do your instruction:

requisite:

internet connection WORKING on the main router 192.168.1.2

address of OpenWrt AP : 192.168.1.1

1)change firmware: OK – now Ihave OpenWRT backfire 10.03.1

2)change password: OK changed

3)SSH enabled: OK only via Lan

3.1)the Diagnostics ARE ALL KO

4.0)to enable internet to work I have to change on Network-Interfaces-LAN the IPv4 gateway to: 192.168.1.2 (the address of main router) and USE custom DNS server set to 8.8.8.8

4.1)I have to change on Network-Interfaces-WAN : Unmanaged

4.2)DHCP and DNS Autoritative unckeched this is the only dhcp in the lan

5)now the Diagnostics are OK (Ping ok – traceroute ok – nslookup ok)

(FROM THE BROWSER I CANNOT GET ANY CONNECTION TO ANY SITE… 🙁 🙁 )

now: I can do ping to google… but i cannot connect to google with the browser… where can be the problem?

also via wifi with iphone, i establish the wifi connection on openwrt ssid (with ip 192.168.182.3)but no internet access

I’ve done some other experiment…

1)Interfaces – WAN = dhcp client

2)Interfaces – LAN = static address (ip: 192.168.1.1 – netmask 255.255.255.0 – gateway 192.168.1.2 – dns servers 8.8.8.8)

dhcp server ignore interface (not checked)

Thank you for your message. Could you please perform the script once again? Make sure you have open wrt installed. We have updated our website, so please log in to your hotspot account and copy the command from the very bottom of the page where it says ROUTER SETUP COMMAND FOR THIS LOCATION. SSH to your router using PuTTy and execute the command.

Let us know of the results.

Hi, I’ve done the new script…but something was wrong… I’ve recorded a video, so you (or someone) can help me to troubleshot the problem…

may I’ve done something wrong?

if you go to the 3rd minute, you can see PuTTy working with the script and than the error given

crontab: can’t open ‘root’: No such file or directory

From the log you had posted earlier and the youtube video you recorded we noticed that the script is running normally and the openwrt installation was successful.

The output you are getting: md5sum: can’t open ‘/etc/chilli/main.conf’: No such file or directory

root@OpenWrt:~#

is just an warning message. Its not a real error message, it is just displayed for informational purposes. The script was executed successfully.

We would like you to focus in another area that may resolve your issue:

You mentioned you are getting free internet connection but no splash page.

You need to set an IP address/subnet of the router’s LAN NOT EQUALLING the WAN side. So you can either set the device that is providing the internet connection to 192.168.x.1 where x does not equal the Linksys’ LAN subnet, or set the Linksys to 192.168.y.1 where y does not equal 1.

Let us know if you are getting a hotspot splash page after performing the above change.

I’ve made this change:

primary router: 192.168.1.1

LINKSYS hotspotsystem router: 192.168.0.1

now, the router is connected with the hotspotsystem site, (I can see it in the DEVICE LIST of your site).
The wifi ssid is OpenWRT and when i connect an iphone it doesn’t expose the splash screen…but it autoconnect to the internet

the dhcp parameters of the iphone are:

ip: 192.168.1.193
router: 192.168.1.2
dns: 192.168.1.2

Thank you for your reply. Its a step forward that your router is displayed on the DEVICE LIST. It may be that ‘www.apple.com’ has to added to the white list on your openwrt router. This has to be done by editing a configuration file on the router. Again, by using PuTTy and the vi editor.

Before we do that, can you please test your hotspot by using a laptop instead of an iphone? We first need to ensure that you are getting a splash page.
