Free Basic With User Management/login Possible?

  • Hello all,

A few days now, I tried to find the best hotspot solution we can use in our environment.

Our visitors must use the internet for free for a specific time, but we also would like a login for employees.

    As far I can see:

I used the CoovaAp firmware which does give me the possibility to use login accounts, but cannot be used without logging in.

I used the HotspotWRT firmware which only gave me the option without logging in, but has no option to add accounts.

Is it possible to use the HotspotWRT firmware and get both options:

    • access for, lets say, half an hour accepting the terms
    • access for employees using a login account

This is what we want, but the login-buttons are missing.

We do not want to use any payment methods of voucher logins.

    I'm using a WRT54G Linksys Router.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

Our solutions are not dictated by the firmware. Each firmware that you've mentioned is capable of running all our solutions.

The solution for which you provided the screenshot does have a login box, but you have to 1st click the “login here with access” link. Otherwise you can configure the login box to be displayed directly on the page from the control center. Click manage-locations-name of location- Modify Hotspot Data & Settings – Modify Hotspot Data & Settings – and check the box next to Display Login Box on Main Splash Page.

Thank you for the reply, Marko.

I cannot find any option to check the “Display Login Box”.

    I go to:

Manage > Locations > My Location

    Edit My Location

    Modify Hotspot Data & Settings

    And then I'm here:

Where sould the Display Login Box checkbox be?

The location is using the 'FREE BASIC' plan and that solution can only work with this option so it is auto checked and hidden.

But i think what you want can only be done using the PRO plan with the free trial option. This way users can get 30 minutes for free if they accept the terms, others can log in with a username and password. (you can turn off the prepaid voucher and credit card modules if you dont want to sell accesses)

However you can only have 2 master accounts per location (who can log in for free with a username and password).

Currently we don't have a solution where you can 'create' logins, however we are planning to do so, but there is no ETA for this,

My client does this by having two SSID's, one “private” for employees, and one “public” with 90 min per day.

With DD-WRT you can create a secondary SSID which you can password protect, so only those can access it who knows the password. Go to Wireless and click on Add under Virtual Interfaces. Then be sure to password protect that channel so only those can access it who have valid password. Click on Wireless Security and add choose a security mode (WPA2 Personal is recommended) with TKIP protection. Then choose a password for this channel.”
