Multiple Routers At One Location

Hello – I'm having trouble setting up my 2nd router in chain. I'm using DD-WRT v24-sp2 (02/11/13) std

(SVN revision 20675). I have hotspot free working on my first router's virtual signal. The 2nd router is working, but the 2nd router's virtual signal (hotspot) doesn't send me to a splash page, nor does it allow internet access. It DOES distribute the correct ip addresses (i.e. 182.x)

I have the 2nd one setup as a router, disabled the WAN connection type

, turned of the sp1 firewall (only on the 2nd one), set the Network Address server settings (DHCP) to dhcp forwarder, linking to my 1st dd-wrt.

I've linked the 2 routers with a cable from LAN port on 1st router to LAN port on 2nd router

On each router I have a wireless (protected) signal and a virtual wifi setup. ath0 and ath0.1

Everything works great on the first router, only the secured (not virtual, not hotspot) connection works on the 2nd router.

I am able to connect on the secured 2nd router signal through ath0 just fine. when i connect to the ath0.1 (hotspotsystem) network, it distributes the correct ip to my computer, but does not send me to a splash page, nor does it allow me internet access.

On my virtual interface ath0.1 i have tried it both as an AP and WDS AP, and also have it listed as unbridged. I've tried both the setup command method and the interface method.

My first hotspot router is working fine, listed as:

Operator: Operatorname

Location: 1

I've also tried

Operator: Operatorname_1

Location: 1_wds

Second hotspot is not working, listed as

Operator: Operatorname

Location: 1_wds_1

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!

I've been searching the forums (and yes followed steps in knowledge base and installation instructions) to no avail.

Also – Hotspotsystem.com shows my second router as working and connected.

Could you tell us the exact router models you are using?

There are two resolutions to this.

1st is the WDS based wireless solution(if the routers are within an acceptable distance of each other), described in this article: http://www.hotspotsystem.com/hotspot_help/kb/articles/31-extend-range-with-wds-wireless-distribution-system

Since it's more complicated with the virtual interfaces, get back to us if you can't get it right for the very first time, but it should work.

2nd is the wired connection, but you have to connect the first router's LAN to the second's WAN port. This is needed for the correct routing tables required by the hotspot.

You have to carry further settings out the same way, I mean the virtual interfaces and the hotspot settings. And you can set the same location ID on the routers as well, but the sessions you use will be reach sooner probably. Also the email notifications from your routers can be a bit more tricky to interpret.
