New user, some technical questions

    hello all, i am a new user and i have some technical questions to you before start!! First of all, i have a network with 3 AP installed, 3 external TPlink TL-WA7210N (not sure if WA-7510N, whathever) connected by wire to a router. i did not unterstand if i have to install modified firmware to all AP’s or to the router. Can you explain me please? Thank you

    If you have more than one AP, a hotspot gateway is the recommended solution (it can be a Ubiquiti EdgeRouter or a Mikrotik hEX or any other Mikrotik router with RouterOS license level 4 or higher), then any AP can be used: you just have to connect them to that gateway. This way you can use the special features of the AP, you still have flexibility to expand your hotspot coverage, and the actual hotspot service runs on a central device.

    First of all thank you Istvan. But if i connect all APs to a router compatible with DD-wrt like my old but good Netgear WNDR3700v2? Will I have same benefits? I am asking this because i am trying to understand if it is possible to install hotspotsystem not only on a brand new installation, but also on an existing one with different components, like different brands AP, another brand router etcetera.. Thank you

    Ciao Riccardo,

    My experience is that it is possible to connect multiple access points to a DD-WRT router with the [dd-wrt.v24-22118_NEWD-2_K2.6_mega-nv64k.bin] firwmare.

    To enable the HotSpotSystem login on these APs, you also need to set LAN (=> cable) as the DHCP interface in Services->Hotspot->HotSpotSystem. This worked for me on a Linksys E900.
