Questions About Mikrotik Rb750Gl Gateway

    Hi,

    I’m designing a hotspot system for a client. It will use Unifi APs (running Ubiquiti’s firmware) behind a Hotspotsystem supplied Mikrotik RB750GL gateway. I’ve searched the Knowledgebase and this forum, but cannot find answers to the following… maybe you can help?

    * Is the RB750GL supplied with Mikrotik RouterOS, or has it been re-flashed with DD-WRT?

    * Does the supplied RB750GL support VLAN tagging on both the WAN and LAN ports?

    * I know that the gateway identifies and authorises users/devices by their Layer-2 MAC address, but how does it control traffic flow? Is it acting as a selective L2 bridge or L3 router?

    * If the gateway is a L2 bridge, does it correctly handle Spanning Tree, ARP, etc on the local network?

    Thank you for your message. The Mikrotik RB750GL is a small SOHO router and it is supplied with Mikrotik’s RouterOS.

    Probably yes.

    The gateway router will create a new subnet and all the hotspot traffic is re-routed so it goes through NAT, this is how it can handle the traffic limit.
