Routers Keep Going Down

    Hello,

    I have 5 buffalo whr-g300n v2 all with dd-wrt build 16214 installed. I have configured these running behind an adsl modem with local IP address 192.168.1.1. The routers are all connected with wires to the adsl modem. The routers have the ip addresses 192.168.x.1 where x is 2 to 6 to accommodate all their own address space. The subnets are all the same.

    As I am using ddwrt version 16214 the command setup works (I have found in later builds that these do not work). I change the IP address and the wds on the install page to the corresponding IP address of the router and the number the router will be in the chain.

    The hotspotsystem installs and all the boxes are recognised by the online login system. The boxes are then usable.

    The only thing I change is the wifi SSID, channel, password and DNS to use openDNS. The routers all have different SSIDs.

    The trouble is the boxes all work fine for a day or two, then they are notified by the online system as down and are then unusable by the customer.

    Can anyone help?

    Hello,

    Please try to telnet(with “telnet IP address of router” )into the routers and after successful login, enter the top command, which lists the running processes of the system. Check if the chilli process starts to use too much memory. Unfortunately there's a bug in DD-WRT, which causes chilli to eat up all the memory of the router and then stop working. This can be seen by the chilli process' allocated memory continously increasing. If that's the case, routers should be restarted before this happens and they need a restart script doing this. Latest developments let us think that DD-WRT is working on a solution, which would replace chilli with the much newer coova-chilli process and would eliminate all issues related to chillispot.

    Hello,

    I am not able to check at the moment, but if this is the case, can the script be executed automatically somehow, and how would I do this. I am not proficient enough with linux commands and DDWRT to be able to do this.

    Does anyone have an update on this issue?

    I am going to update the routers to the newest version of dd-wrt release in hope that this issue may have been fixed. It seems like this issue has been around for a while when I look on other forums.

    At the moment I have to reset the routers every night, and even then sometimes they are failing quickly after a reboot.
