Transactions Vs Sessions

Hi, I have some questions about the operator's website.
I see on the Summary tab a count of “Transactions” and “Sessions”. Usually there is 1 “session” for every 1 “transaction”, but sometimes there are extra sessions. I assume this happens when someone is already logged on during the 2 hour time frame I gave them, when they come back again during that 2 hours, they get another “session” but the transaction count stays the same.
That's fine, I understand that… but what does it mean when someone makes a successful “transaction”, but the “session” count does not go up? How can someone successfully initiate a transaction without also starting a session? I've only seen this happen on people's Android and Linux devices.
I'm not sure if this is related, but I've also noticed in the “transaction details” that most devices show the IP address of the public address where our hotspot is located at…. however, some of them show different IP addresses. I'm not sure, but I think these two things are related… i.e. when someone logs in and creates a new “transaction”, but does not create a new “session”, that transaction detail will show an IP address that is different from our hotspot's public IP address.
Any ideas what's going on here?
Thanks
Anonymous February 16, 2013 at 9:54 amHello,
your operator username is 'lakemeadmarina'? In this case you cannot see the sessions as you have the free Basic Plan. So how is this data coming from?
We need to check your account to verify these data.
Anonymous February 17, 2013 at 12:17 amWell, i'm not sure what I am or am not supposed to be able to see, but when I log in to the operating website on hotspotsystem.com, the “summary” page shows me the last 10 transactions, and I can click a button at the bottom of the window to “show all transactions”. So maybe my account is just skrewed up.
In any event, I might have figured out what was happening… maybe. One of the employees where I set up the hotspot disabled the WiFi on her smart phone after previously using the hotspot. Now, for some reason, when she opens her web browser without using WiFi, she is still taken to the splash page… maybe it's saved in her history or something, so it goes there automatically, or it was left open previously. In any event, maybe it's possible that the uses this splash page to log in, initiating a new “transaction”, but does not create a new “session” because she isn't connected to out WiFi. This might explain why these mysterious IP addresses that I see on the transactions look like they belong to the cellphone carriers according to WHOIS.
