Which Is The Most Reliable Router?

    Hi all,

    I was just wondering, as I get started, which is the most reliable router for me to use? At the moment I have the Linksys WRT54GL which seemed to be the most recommended one, but before I dive in and buy a few, I was hoping to get some feedback from you guys, maybe even HSS about which router is the most reliable.

    I'm sure some people will have good/bad experiences with some/other models, but would be good to get some opinions on which one to use and go with, I'd rather stick to just the one model so I don;t have to learn my way around lots of different ones which I think makes sense.

    Hi,

    The Linksys WRT54GL has proven as a reliable router for me, although it is an older router and cannot do 802.11N. For outdoors use I recommend the Ubiquity brand routers. I advise you to consult Ubiquity regarding the exact model they recommend for you.

    I successfully installed a hotspot before that ran reliably using a PicoStation 2HP – they are amazing little routers and I've yet to have one fail on me. I ran one out on top of a roof in the Costa Rican elements for over a year, no problems, and it wasn't even using shielded grounded cable (which is highly recommended for outdoors so lightning ESD can discharge). Also have one operating in a small grocery store and I get full-bars coverage everywhere inside and out whereas with a N Linksys router I couldn't connect in some places… I even recommend them over the 54G Linksys routers as long as you will be installing them at least several feet away from people — I wouldn't recommend keeping it running on a desk or something, 1000mW is fairly high output to be right beside it! 😛

    Mikrotik and Ubiquiti routers are very reliable.
