    Hi Mark,

    How much bandwidth does your “basic telus wifi broadband connection” provide?

    Since wifi is a shared medium all clients are sharing and contending for the bandwidth available through the wifi link.

    For example, if you users are contending with 50 others over a 100mb/s Ethernet attached to the access point, their actual available bandwidth becomes 2mb/s.

    Another limiting factor is the router’s resources. A Linksys router may be capable of handling 15-20 simultaneous users, if you have more users then that, use a Ubiquiti or Mikrotik router.

    Which firmware did you download? What is your router’s model?

    what would you suggest to start off as far as bandwidthwith with a typical downtown connection thats not crazy busy on a linksys wrt?

    Can you give me an idea, as to make the connection strong enough to stream youtube videos? That page still is a bit vague, not being technical person. What do hotspot users typically by from their providers for a coffee shop per se?

    I don’t have exact data on how much bandwidth our operators purchase from their ISP, but I can give you some figures so you can make a good estimate on how much your hotspot will require.

    These are the requirements per user, and you will have to multiply the value by the number of users you anticipate will simultaneous use the hotspot.

    Downstream:

    web browsing, online gaming: 1Mbps

    Streaming videos: 3-4Mbps

    Streaming HD videos: 5-9Mbps

    Upstream:

    audio/video streaming: 256 Kbps

    Hi, ive got as far as loading this firmware onto the linksys : Firmware: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (10/10/09) std

    Time: 00:02:46 up 2 min, load average: 0.05, 0.08, 0.03

    I cant seem to get the proper time (its always moving) or get past this point. Can you help me from here? Thank you.

    Im trying to use ethernet internet through my linksys router after the firmware update from my cable modem. Also have attempted rebooting computer and router. Linksys version 4.24 wrt54g

    The router’s time must be set to GMT+0 and DST set to off

    the time settings were off, but still where it says time looks like some random number thats constantly fluctuating. Also, i can not use the internet through the router’s ethernet or wirelessly. Should i start all over again? Maybe i didnt flash it properly?

    tried to set the time with both methods ( they were different than listed ) but still no go..

    If you set the NTP servers in the configuration and the time still did not show the correct GMT+0 time, then its also possible that the router could not connect to the NTP servers. You can try to add the ip address of the NTP server instead of the domain name, and also see if the router is able to ping the ip address? Otherwise a simple factory reset may help.

    the yellow light is on, the time looked right, just cant get onto the splash page. Notice the exclamation mark

    tried setting to LAN and WLAN under services, rebooted computer
