* Does the supplied RB750GL support VLAN tagging on both the WAN and LAN ports?
Probably yes.
* I know that the gateway identifies and authorises users/devices by their Layer-2 MAC address, but how does it control traffic flow? Is it acting as a selective L2 bridge or L3 router?
* If the gateway is a L2 bridge, does it correctly handle Spanning Tree, ARP, etc on the local network?
The gateway router will create a new subnet and all the hotspot traffic is re-routed so it goes through NAT, this is how it can handle the traffic limit.

The Unifi controller could be seen if it’s connected above the WRT54GL (to the main LAN), but this should be configured in the local subnet. You can do this by either setting it in the WRT54GL with adding a host of ‘unifi’ and its IP address or by the following(ssh-ing into the Unifi APs):
# 1. make sure the AP is running the latest (or 2.1.0+)
# if it’s not, do
# syswrapper.sh upgrade http://ip-of-controller:8080/dl/firmware/BZ2/version-of-ap-see-ref-table-below/firmware.bin
# 2. make sure the AP is in factory default state

This has never came up as a problem so far with our system. Actually the whole wireless access/ssid/hotspot process is quite long compared to even this 2-3s. So this is normal and do not affects the stability or reliability of the operation.

This is a bit much for the router together I think.
If you want to connect to another router wirelessly and add something(hotspot) to the signal and use the result as a another wireless signal, it would be a repeater mode.
This can be seen from DD-WRT help on the right where you can set Wireless Mode options under the Wireless Physical interface. (client bridge is about diasabling WAN to use only one(bridged) network node.
So it can be WDS or a non-WDS repeater. However a non-WDS repeater would not keep MAC address data, thus will let the users through after the first successful login. In your scenario it may be used, since you’d run the hotspot on the last router in the chain.

To configure a non-WDS repeater you need to use Repeater or Repeater bridge mode(we haven’t tested this yet).
In repeater mode you’ll use the physical wireless interface to connect to your another router, while the virtual interface would run the hotspot. You need to set it of course to unbridged mode to get the node index under the DHCP interface of the hotspot.
If you ran into trouble, try to use 8.8.8.8 for google’s DNS under basic>basic setup>router IP>local DNS and remove the 3 checkbox flags for DNSMasq for DNS, DHCP and DHCP-authoritative under Network address server settings on the same page.

Are you sure, that your device has only one network node?
In a hotspot router (of ours) Coovachilli works as a DHCP server as well, it distributes IP addresses from the 192.168.182.0 subnet by default. But the same node can’t get an additional IP address from the router’s default LAN range, that can work simultaneously with the hotspot, but not on the same node(LAN or WLAN) of the router. The computer connected to the M2 via a LAN cable gets a 192.168.20.x address, and wireless clients connecting to the hotspot get a 192.168.182.x address, if these are set. (That’s the default setting anyways.)
You can disable or modify (to another IP range) DHCP services in the router independently from the hotspot too.Best Regards,

You can use it with Hotspotsystem right away. You need to connect the Unifi network to one of the Linksys router’s LAN ports, that serve the hotspot. You need to make sure, that the Linksys feeds the hotspot on the LAN ports as well. In this case the Unifi network (no matter how many devices it’s built from) will transmit the hotspot signal.

The TP-Link AC1750 goes just for 150USD. However currently it’s not supported by DD-WRT, so it cannot be used with our system. You need 802.11ac clients as well to maintain such a high connectivity speed.

The hotspot captive portal can work with broader range class B subnets as well, if you need a larger pool if IP addresses.
Please use a good IP subnet calculator like http://www.subnet-calculator.com/ to get the right direction on calculatig your desired address pool.
Also, the IP subnet of 192.168.182.0 is not right, it must be 192.168.0.0 for any class B (larger then 254-address pool) mask. Gateway should also be 192.168.0.1 and not 192.168.x.1

You can determine in the CBR400, that which network node you would bind to the hotspot. In this case it should be only the wireless.

If it’s a Linksys WRT54GL, you can add additional SSIDs (wireless networks) to it, but you cannot serve more hotspot locations with the same router. You cannot add additional(virtual) SSIDs to a Ubiquiti router. Also, you can add limitless number of locations (with more router) to your portfolio in the control center.

under the DHCP server it’s not the same thing, since it’s being replaced by the coovachilli process as soon as the hotspot has been started.Regards,
