If you set the LAN ports based on this article: http://help.hotspotsystem.com/knowledgebase/offer-hotspot-service-via-the-lan-ports-wired-connection then you won’t get the router on LAN since it gives the hotspot on LAN (else every user getting the hotspot from there could access your router). If you disconnect the internet, you can connect however. (If you haven’t touched the IP address of LAN port)
You can set remote administration to be able to reach the router from WAN also. Check System > Administration if it accepts SSH from all ports. If yes, go to Network > Firewall and make sure the WAN > record shows ACCEPT ACCEPT DROP, defining that it will accept inbound connections originated outbound.Steve

Make sure the user tries a regular http page to get the splash page from. Also the built in browser may not log in correctly from the splash page with earlier iOS versions.Steve

You can set up a client SSID from Network > Wifi. You need to configure a network interface for it also by assigning an interface in the bottom in the advanced settings section. Then you also need to configure a firewall zone (let’s say WIFI2) for the new interface associated with that client-SSID. If it’s done you need to add a firewall rule for the new interface letting devices connecting from your desired interface, like WIFI > WIFI2 ACCEPT ACCEPT DROP. You may also have to create a rule for WIFI2 > (DROP) like the original WAN > (DROP) in the firmware (use DROP ACCEPT DROP and set Masquerading) You can delete WAN > (DROP) if you set the WIFI2 for wan. Also, set MSS clapmping for all rules.
You also have to set the new wan interface in the /etc/chilli/defaults file for WAN_IF.
The thing is that the setup script only works fine if you have one SSID only. So you have to run it when the router is in default state, then apply the settings above. If you had problems setting this up, let us know.Steve
Confirm please that this solution has been working so far. Once the PPTP gateway has been set up, you need to put its interface name in the WAN_IF section of the coova-chilli configuration file under /etc/chilli/defaults.
From there it uses the PPTP tunnel as the internet source.Regards,

You need to configure the hotspot on the virtual wireless interface if you do want to use two SSIDs.
It should be done according to the guide and the linked article on DD-WRT interfaces. You need to unbridge the interface and set the upcoming interface name (ath 0.1 for TP-Link probably) under Services>Hotspot. If it fails to run good, you need to use an older firmware. Like from the end of 2014. (if the current ones are buggy)Regards,

Also, the Mikrotik way could also work, we yet to have a test with it.
We’ll be testing an LTE solution with the RB951 soon, but the compatibility between the router and the 3G/4G modem is the main limiting factor.Steve,

The most important things with any configuration:
You need to use the ADSL modem to connect to the line first.
The TP-Link should be connected by its WAN (internet) port to the ADSL modem.
You need to make sure the TP-Link is not configured to the IP subnet used on its WAN side (see Status > WAN or he top right corner for the IP WAN address).
Please read the troubleshooting tips in the DD-WRT guide carefully. 8.8.8.8 should be used under Setup > Basic setup > Network setup > Router IP.
It’s safe to use DD-WRT builds from here for the TP-Link routers:

Hello,
You need to follow our installation guide to the letter. You don’t have to change any IP address to 192.168.182.x anywhere. Reset the router first while it’s unpowered, hold reset and release it only once the router got power for at least 20 seconds. Follow the guide again please.

Hi Daniel,
Please set 8.8.8.8 for local DNS under Setup>Basic setup>Network setup>Router IP.
Also please disable the 3 checkboxes under the DHCP settings. (DNSmasq and authoritative thing)If you still had problems, please set Wireless>Wireless physical interface>Network configuration>Unbridged. Then go to Services>Hotspot>DHCP interface>ath0.1 (for the unbridged wireless interface).
Reboot the router and try connecting again.
